Mariza/Night of Wine & Fado ~ Mariza/Noite de Vinho e Fado
On March 17, 2013, Sausalito Sister Cities, Inc. and the Consulate General of Portugal in San Francisco are jointly hosting a Night of Wine and Fado to benefit Sausalito's newest sister city relationship with Cascais, a town 35 kilometers to the east of Lisbon. Proceeds from this event will help to fund the Sausalito-Cascais Sister City program.
There are two parts to the evening's program. First, between 4:30pm and 7:00pm, the Honorable Nuno Mathias, Portugal's Consul General in San Francisco, will host a reception at his residence at 3298 Washington Street in San Francisco. Portuguese petiscos (hors d'oeuvres) will be served, and Eugenio Jardim, a well-respected Bay Area sommelier and a U.S. representative for Wines of Portugal, will provide tastings of fine Portuguese wines. In addition, Robert Morey, a Napa winemaker of Portuguese descent (from Carcavellos), will be pouring the latest release of his Morey Cellars Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon as well as some library wines that are no longer available. Rancho Folclórico à Portuguesa will perform in traditional Portuguese Ribatejo-style costumes, and further musical entertainment will be provided by Bay Area fadista Ilda Maria.
The second part of the program will be a performance by Portuguese superstar Mariza at the recently-opened SFJAZZ Center at the corner of Franklin and Fell Streets in San Francisco, part of the SFJAZZ 2013 season. VIP seating has been reserved for the Mariza concert which starts at 7:30pm that evening.
